C70600 Copper Nickel 90/10, also known as Cupronickel 90/10, is a copper alloy with approximately 90% copper and 10% nickel, along with trace amounts of other elements. Ameritube’s 100% Made in USA, vertically integrated copper tube manufacturing in Hillsboro, TX supports its copper alloy product line. Copper is approximately 88.6–90.4%; nickel 9–11%; iron maximum 1.8%; and manganese maximum 1%. Tensile strength typically ranges from 310 MPa (45,000 psi) to 480 MPa (70,000 psi), yield strength is generally around 105–240 MPa (15,000–35,000 psi), and elongation is typically 25–35%.
Material behavior
Corrosion resistance
C70600 Copper Nickel 90/10 exhibits excellent resistance to corrosion in various environments, especially seawater and brackish water. It is highly resistant to biofouling, erosion, and stress corrosion cracking, making it suitable for marine and offshore applications. Copper-nickel’s electrode potential is adjusted to be neutral with regard to seawater.
- Reliable in seawater cooling systems and high-water-velocity service
- Good machinability, with appropriate techniques and tools for work hardening
Heat transfer
Dependable at sea
The alloy is known for high heat transfer, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Condenser tubes of this alloy provide long and dependable service at sea. It is also highly satisfactory for evaporators, inter-after condensers, air ejectors of steam condensers, and boiler feedwater heaters.
- Protective corrosion-product films support high water velocities
- Suitable for piping, heat exchangers, condensers, and marine hardware
